STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to St. John's on Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST match-up at the Magic Lincer Tennis Club. The Huskies fall to 7-5 overall and 1-1 in conference matches this season.
"We came up against a tough team today in St. John's," stated Director of Tennis Glenn Marshall. "Our kids battled in singles and had many close matches, highlighted by a great 3 set win by Leonie. Denise and JulieAnne fought hard but came up just short in their matches. We need to learn how to break through with confidence and toughness in the close sets and matches. That was the difference today."
The Huskies lone point came at No. 2 singles with sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) who won a three set battle with Lalita Devarakonda. Hoppe won the first set, 6-3, dropped the second 6-0 but then rebounded to win 6-4 in the third. It was Hoppe's 15th singles win on the season.
UConn is back in action on Wednesday, March 30 at Bryant at 1:45 pm.
