Huskies to Take on Stanford in NCAA Final Four

MINNEAPOLIS – The second-seeded and fifth-ranked UConn women's basketball team (29-5) faces No. 1-seed and No.2-ranked Stanford (32-3) in the NCAA national semifinal on Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET in the Target Center. The game will air on ESPN, the UConn Sports Network and Westwood One.
Sophomore Paige Bueckers is a native of Hopkins, Minn., which is about 10 miles from the Target Center.
This is UConn's 14th straight and 22nd overall Final Four appearance. The Huskies are 11-10 (.524) all-time in the Final Four. UConn is 129-21 (.860) all-time in the NCAA Tournament, which is the winningest record in the sport.
UConn beat No. 1-seed NC State, 91-87, in a double overtime thriller to advance to the Final Four. The game featured 13 lead changes and 10 ties. Bueckers scored 15 of her 27 points in overtime to lead the Huskies past the Wolfpack. Senior Christyn Williams added 21 points while freshman Azzi Fudd had 19. Bueckers was named the Bridgeport Regional Most Outstanding Player while Williams and Fudd were named to the All-Region Team.
UConn is 11-7 all-time vs. Stanford. The Huskies and Cardinal have faced off in the NCAA Tournament six times, including five times in the Final Four weekend. UConn is 4-2 vs. Stanford in the NCAA Tournament. UConn and Stanford's first NCAA Tournament game was on April 1, 1995, in the Final Four game in Minneapolis. Friday's game features the two winningest coaches in NCAA Division I women's basketball: Tara VanDerveer (1,157) and Geno Auriemma (1,148).
Stanford beat No. 6-ranked Texas, 59-50, in the Elite Eight to win the Spokane Regional. Lexie Hull led the Cardinal with 20 points in the game. This season, Cameron Brink leads Stanford with 13.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. The Cardinal won the regular season and tournament Pac-12 titles. Head coach Tara VanDerveer is in her 36th season at Stanford.
