Top-Seeded Huskies to Face Georgetown in BIG EAST Quarters

STORRS, Conn. – The top-seeded UConn women's basketball team (22-5, 16-1 BIG EAST) begins BIG EAST Tournament play against No. 9-seed Georgetown (10-18, 4-15) in the quarterfinals Saturday at noon in Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will air on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network.
The BIG EAST Conference and Mohegan Sun Arena have adjusted the spectator policy for the 2022 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Tournament. As a result of improving conditions locally and nationally surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be required to show proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test for entry into the arena. Additionally, face coverings, while recommended, will not be required.
UConn is 91-13 (.875) all-time in conference tournaments. The Huskies have won 26 total conference tournament titles: 19 in the BIG EAST and seven in the American Athletic Conference. UConn has been in the championship game of every conference tournament since 1993.
UConn is 48-6 all-time vs. Georgetown, including 45-3 under head coach Geno Auriemma. On Feb. 20, senior Christyn Williams led UConn with 19 points and five assists in a 90-49 win for the Huskies in Hartford.
No. 9-seed Georgetown advanced to the BIG EAST quarterfinals with a win over No. 8-seed Providence, 68-55, Friday. Milan Bolden-Morris had 18 points to lead the Hoyas. This season, Bolden-Morris leads the Hoyas with 12.8 points per game. Head coach James Howard is in his fifth season at Georgetown.
Sophomore Nika Mühl was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as league awards were announced Thursday. This is the 11th time a Husky has been named conference defensive player of the year. Seniors Christyn Williams and Olivia Nelson-Ododa were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. It was Williams' third time earning first team honors and Nelson-Ododa's first.
Freshman Caroline Ducharme and Azzi Fudd were both named to the All-Freshman Team. Ducharme also earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Second Team.
The Huskies finished off the regular season with an 88-31 win over Providence last Sunday. Senior Christyn Williams led the Huskies with 16 points while graduate student Dorka Juhász had 14 points and 10 rebounds. UConn grabbed a season-high 57 rebounds vs. the Friars. Freshman Azzi Fudd also had 14 points while senior Olivia Nelson-Ododa added 13.
