STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's hockey team will be the No. 4 seed in the 2022 Hockey East playoffs and will host a quarterfinal match-up with No. 5 seeded Boston University on Saturday, March 12 at the XL Center. Game time for Saturday's quarterfinal match-up is set for 4:30 pm and tickets are on sale NOW by visiting UConnTickets.com. The game will be available to stream online on CollegeSportsLive.com and on the radio on the UConn Sports Network from Learfield and The Varsity Network App.
The Huskies finished the 2021-22 season with an 18-15-0 overall record and at 14-10-0 in Hockey East. UConn finished with 41 points and in a three-way tie for fourth place in the standings with BU and Merrimack.
UConn's 18 overall wins this season marks their highest total since head coach Mike Cavanaugh's first season in Storrs when the Huskies finished 18-14-4. UConn's 13 Hockey East wins, 41 points and fourth place finish are all program best marks since the Huskies joined the conference in 2014-15.
The Huskies dropped the season series with Boston University this season, losing at home 2-1 and winning on the road, 5-1 in an early October home-and-home series. The Terriers grabbed the season series win thanks to a 2-1 overtime win at XL Center in January.
This will be the second post season meeting between UConn and BU. The Terriers swept a 2018 quarterfinals series as the No. 4 seed at home over the No. 5 seeded Huskies. BU won game one, 5-4 in overtime and clinched the series 2-1 in game two.
The Tournament returns to an all-in format after a two-year departure. Seeds six, seven, and eight will host seeds 11, 10, and nine, respectively, in the Opening Round on Wednesday, March 9. After a reseeding, the top three seeds will host the winners of the Opening Round while the four seed will host the five seed in the Quarterfinals on Saturday, March 12. For the first time since 2019, the Hockey East Men's Championship Semifinals and Final will return to the TD Garden in Boston on March 18-19, 2022.
The Hockey East semifinals are set tentatively set for 4:00pm and 7:30pm on Friday, March 18 at TD Garden in Boston, while the 37th championship game will be played Saturday, March 19 at 7:00pm. Tickets are available via TicketMaster.com.
The winner of the Hockey East Men's Tournament presented by Mortgage Network will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament and have a chance to reach the 2022 NCAA Frozen Four held in Boston at TD Garden. The Massachusetts Minutemen are the defending Hockey East Tournament and NCAA Champions, while the Providence Friars claimed the NCAA crown in 2015 when the Frozen Four was last hosted in Boston.
