Emma Chee Sets New School Mark at UConn Northeast Challenge

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's track and field team wrapped the first day of competition of the UConn Northeast Challenge at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.
After six scored events on day one, the Huskies are tied with the University at Albany for first place, both with 42 points. Saturday will get underway with the conclusion of the heptathlon and 14 other scored events.
The Huskies were led by junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) on day one who won the pole vault and broke her own school outdoor record in the process.
On the track…
- Freshman Rachel Woodruff (Saranac, N.Y.) competed for the first time this outdoor season and ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase, finishing third overall with a time of 10:57.55.
In the field…
- Junior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) got her second win of the outdoor season in the pole vault and did so with a new school record. Chee broke her own school mark by clearing the bar at 4.22 meters.
- Freshman Kalli Knott (Erie, Pa.) was second behind Chee, clearing a height of 3.83 meters.
- Sophomore Jasmine Barrow (Athens, Ga.) placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.25 meters.
- After four scored events in the heptathlon, senior Kelly Ward (Oxford, Conn.) is in third place with 2979 total points. Ward won the high jump with a height of 1.65 meters and finished third in the 100 meter hurdles (15.11 seconds), the shot put (11.28m) and the 200 meter dash (26.63 seconds).
- Freshman Brynn Madonna (Allendale, NJ) fnished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 39.97 meters.
- Freshman Emily Alty (Ashburn, Ontario) took fifth in the discus with a throw of 45.18 meters.
