Huskies Win UConn Dog Fight Invite

STORRS, Conn. -Â The UConn men's track and field team took care of business in their first home meet of the outdoor season, topping the field at the UConn Dog Fight Invitational on Saturday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs.
The Huskies piled up 203 points over 18 events to win the six-team event. Albany was second with 122 points followed by Southern Connecticut (115) in third, Yale in fourth (91), Boston University in fifth (69.5) and Northeastern in sixth (27.5).
"A heck of a day for us," stated Director of Cross Country and Track & Field Greg Roy. "We were a little out of position in some places and really still training hard. But the weatherman sure cooperated today, and we got some really good performances. Some great performances for us today from Wellington and Terrel in the hurdles. It was a really nice meet today and a fantastic job here on our home track to get this first meet under our belts."
On the track…
- Freshman Terrel Williams (Maplewood, N.J.) won the 110-meter hurdles and did so with a new PR of 13.98 seconds.
- UConn went 1-2 in the 400 meters with junior Wellington Ventura (Cresskill, N.J.) leading the way with a time of 46.68 seconds. Classmate Noah Woodman (Hampstead, N.H.) was second in 47.31 seconds. Junior Markus Bagley was fifth with a time of 49.00 seconds
- Ventura was double winner on Saturday after taking the top-spot in the 200 meters with a time of 21.43 seconds. Bagley finished third in 22.01 seconds and Woodman was fourth at 22.23.
- The Huskies dominated the 5,000 meters, claiming the top-three spots led by senior James Maniscalco (Fairfield, Conn.) who won with a time of 14:23.50. Sophomore Kevin Cawley (Massapequa, N.Y.) as second in 14:25.94, a new PR, and sophomore Christopher Lepore (Trumbull, N.Y.) in third at 14:30.97.
- In the 1,500 meters, UConn senior Joshua Bedard (Tolland, Conn.) was third overall with a time of 3:55.51. Freshman Samuel Geisler (Newington, Conn.) was fourth in 3:55.55 and junior Joseph Pearl (Manchester, Conn.) was fifth in 3:56.32.Â
- The UConn 4x100 relay team of junior Josiah Thompson (Jamaica, N.Y.), sophomore Richmond Kwaateng (Lowell, Mass.), senior Aaron Hackett (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and sophomore Conor Mahony (Monroe, Conn.) took first place with a time of 41.05 seconds.
- Mahoney was fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.86 seconds, a new PR.
- In the 800 meters, freshman Mahamed Sharif (Westbrook, Maine) was fourth with a time of 1:53.15.
In the field…
- UConn took the top-two spots in the pole vault with junior Travis Snyder (Saco, Maine) besting the field at 5.05 meters. Classmate Tyler Hrbek (Northvale, N.J.) was second with a height of 4.90 meters, matching his best height this spring so far.
- Sophomore Tanner Jameson (Durham, Conn.) got his season started in the javelin on Saturday and posted a win, recording a throw of 63.08 meters to best the field. Coming in second was classmate Joseph Venables (Durham, Conn.) with a throw of 58.18 meters.
- Sophomore Richmond Kwaateng (Lowell, Mass.) was the long jump winner with a leap of 7.66 meters to set a new PR
- In the high jump, freshman Kasey Savage (Tolland, Conn.) took second with a height of 2.03 meters, setting a new PR. Savage was fifth in the long jump at 7.02 meters, another PR for the freshman. Senior Daniel Claxton (Nesconset, N.Y.) was fourth at 1.98 meters.
- In the hammer throw, senior Christopher Keegan (West Hartford, Conn.) was second with a throw of 59.03 meters. Sophomore Kevin Cetin (Massapequa, N.Y.)
- In the shot put, senior Matthew Brady (Biddeford, Maine) was sixth with a throw of 16.15 meters.
