Huskies Fall to St. John's In BIG EAST Quarterfinal

CAYCE, S.C. - The UConn women's tennis team were knocked out of the BIG EAST Championship tournament on Friday, losing to the St. John's Red Storm in the quarterfinals 4-0. The Huskies end their season with a final record of 10-12 on the year.
UConn lost the opening double point with top-seeded St. John's posting wins at No. 1 and 3. Juniors Caroline Cook (Naples, Fla.) and Denise Lai (Setauket, NY) lost a battle at No. 3 to Lalita Devarakonda and Camila Ordones, 7-5. Sophomore Aleksandra Karamyshev (Ashton, Md.) and freshman Isabel Petri Bere (Lund, Sweden) were knotted at 6-6 in the No. 2 match before it was halted when the point was clinched.
In singles play, St. John's clinched the match by posting wins at No. 5, 4 and 3. Sophomore Leonie Hoppe (Munich, Germany) lost a tough battle at No. 3 to Jayden Nielsen, falling 7-5 in the first and 6-2 in the second. Cook lost at No. 4 to Yesica de Lucas, 6-1, 6-2 and Petri Bere fell at No. 5 to Willa Bay Breunich, 6-2 and 6-0.
