UConn Women Close Day One at NCAA East Prelims

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The UConn women's track & field team completed their first day of competing at the 2022 NCAA East Preliminary at Indiana University's Haugh Track & Field on Thursday.
Four of UConn's six athletes competed on Thursday with the remaining women's events taking place on Saturday, May 28. The UConn men will wrap up their competition on Friday looking for a spot in the NCAA Championship.
Senior Emma Chee (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) just missed a NCAA Championship qualifying spot by finishing tied for 13th in the field with Towson's Hayley Horvath. Chee and Horvath along Samford's Brittany Bishop all cleared the height of 4.21 meters. Bishop laid claim to the 12th spot by clearing the height on her first attempt while both Chee and Horvath made it on their second attempts. All three did not clear the next height at 4.31 meters.
Junior Mikyala Rodgers (South Huntington, NY) had her best throw of the day on her second attempt, coming in at 57.18 meters for a 36th place finish in the hammer.
In the 100 meter hurdles, freshman Jailya Ash (Voorhees, NJ) was 36th in the field clocking in at 13.73 seconds. Classmate Gabby Davis (Franklin Park, NJ) ran the first round of the 400 meter hurdles and finished 45th with a time of 1:04.52.
On Saturday, senior Mia Nahom (New Milford, Conn.) will run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and junior Patricia Mroczkowski (Berlin, Conn.) will compete in the high jump with a shot at qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
