Watson, White Headline Seven UConn All-BIG EAST Selections

NEW YORK – Following an impressive regular season, the No. 18 UConn women's lacrosse team landed seven student-athletes on the All-BIG EAST Teams, highlighted by seniors Sydney Watson and Landyn White taking home major awards, the conference released on the eve of the BIG EAST Championship.
Watson repeated as the unanimous BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, becoming just the third player in conference history to repeat the feat. White also earned a major award in being tabbed the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year, marking the first time a UConn student-athlete has earned the title since 2016.
Senior Lia LaPrise and junior Ariana Kline earned their second straight All-BIG EAST First Team nods, while senior Grace Coon and juniors Madelyn George and Kate Shaffer earned spots on the Second Team.
Watson, a six-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, is having another season for the record books. The senior ranks third in the NCAA in draw controls per game (9.5), is tied for sixth all-time in NCAA history with 512 career draw controls, and owns every draw control record in program history. She leads the BIG EAST in points (5.0) and goals (3.56) per game and has scored in all 16 games.
White was a dominant force in net during the regular season, leading conference in saves (161), saves per game (10.0), and ranks third in save percentage (.464). Her 13 wins in net are the most a Husky goalkeeper has earned in a single season, and she is one of 18 goalkeepers in the NCAA to average double-digit saves.
LaPrise recorded another standout season on the attack, piling up 40 goals and 20 assists. Her 3.7 points per game rank fifth in the conference, while her 1.2 assists per game rank rank sixth among league leaders.
Kline continued to prove why she is one of the top defenders in the BIG EAST as she leads the Huskies in caused turnovers (23) and ranks fourth in ground balls (23).
Coon is having a career year, ranking second on the team with 41 goals and has registered at least one point in all 16 games, while her 2.5 goals per game rank seventh in the BIG EAST.
George has been an all-around force at the midfield, amassing 13 goals, nine assists, 19 ground balls, 12 caused turnovers and 40 draw controls.
Shaffer is having a breakout season on the attack, posting career highest of 39 goals, 14 assists, and 53 points.
UConn will open up its BIG EAST Championship quest on Thursday, May at 3 p.m. EST against No. 12 Denver in a semifinal matchup.
