GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The UConn men's basketball team will go on the road to play the University of Florida at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center in Gainesville on Wednesday, Dec. 7, as part of the Huskies' 2022-23 non-conference schedule.
The game completes a home-and-home contract that began when the Gators visited Gampel Pavilion in November, 2019. The return game has been delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic. The game time and television coverage will be announced at a later date.
The Gators, out of the Southeastern Conference, finished 20-14 in 2021-22, losing to Xavier in the second round of the NIT. UConn went 23-10 and made its second straight appearance in the NCAA Championship. Â
UConn is 4-1 all-time against Florida, losing the first meeting, 69-60, in overtime in the 1994 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in Miami. The Huskies have won the four meetings since – 65-64 at Gampel Pavilion on Dec. 2, 2013, on a buzzer-beating jumper by Shabazz Napier, 63-53 later that season on April 5, 2014, in the NCAA National Semifinals in Arlington, Texas, 63-59 on Jan. 3, 2015, in Gainesville, and 62-59 on Nov. 17, 2019, at Gampel.
It will be the third game against a Southeastern Conference team for a UConn team under Coach Dan Hurley. The Huskies defeated Florida, 62-59, at Gampel Pavilion in November, 2019, and topped Auburn, 115-109, in double overtime in November, 2021, in the opening round of the Battle 4 Atlantis on Paradise Island in the Bahamas.
UConn has also announced 2022-23 non-conference games in the Phil Knight Invitational on Nov. 24-27 in Portland, Ore. – three games against teams from among Alabama, Iowa State, Michigan State, North Carolina, Oregon, Portland, and Villanova – as well as a home game on Dec. 1 against Oklahoma State in the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle.  Â
