David McKown Named New Head Diving Coach

STORRS, Conn. – UConn Head swimming coach Chris Maiello announced that David McKown will be joining the staff as the Head Diving Coach.
"I am incredibly excited and grateful to be a part of UConn Nation! I am very much looking forward to taking UConn's diving program to the next level," said McKown.
"Our program is fortunate to have a coach like Dave," commented Maiello. "His national level experience and his club diving background will serve our student-athletes and program at an elite level. It is a great time to be a husky, and coach Dave is going to be really good for our program."
McKown, a 2010 graduate from Miami University (Ohio), comes to Storrs after serving as the Head Diving Coach at the University of Indianapolis last season. McKown led his divers to a sweep in the men's 1-meter national championship, which also included coaching the first national diving champion in school history.
In his tenure at Indianapolis, McKown developed 11 Division II All-Americans, 38 first team All-Americans and 9 All-America Honorable Mention honors. In addition, McKown has produced 22 individual event conference champions and 12 GLVC Diver of the Year awards.
Upon his arrival at Indianapolis, coach McKown coached divers broke every UIndy men's and women's diving record along with holding three GLVC conference records.
Along with being the Head Diving coach at UIndy, McKown is also the Head Satellite Diving Coach at the Indiana International School of Diving. As the head coach, McKown garnered 15 Junior Olympic Regional Gold medalists and 11 Junior National Finalist performances. In addition, he graduated three 2017 Division 1 Nationals/World Championship Trials qualifies and one 2020 Olympic Trials qualified.
McKown was a Division I diver at Miami University (Ohio). Throughout his diving and coaching career, McKown has been awarded the GLVC Paragon Award and was named the Divion II Men's Coach of the Year in back-to back seasons, in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
