STORRS, Conn. – The UConn men's soccer team beat the NJIT Highlanders Friday night 3-1 at Morrone Stadium.

UConn started out on the front foot creating chances early. Moussa Wade broke the deadlock in the 16^thminute with his second goal of the season giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. Wade finished a brilliantly placed centering ball across the box by Frantz Pierrot into the bottom corner of the goal.

Pierrot had a great chance in front of goal in the 29^th minute but the goalkeeper made a great save to keep it a one goal lead for the Huskies. The first half finished 1-0 UConn.

NJIT got an equalizer in the second minute of the second half tying the game at one. UConn responded quickly, scoring a goal eight minutes later in the 55^th minute. Junior transfer Søren Ilsøe scored his first goal of the season off a header to give the Huskies the lead. Mateo Leveque swung a free kick in from the edge of the box and Ilsøe was there to bury the go-ahead goal.

UConn dominated in possession after the second goal creating a lot of chances in the final third. Freshmen Eli Conway and Kwame Adu-Gyamfi came off the bench and gave the Huskies a big boost applying pressure to the NJIT back line.

Junior Jack Loura had a goal saving clearance off the goal line in the 58^th minute to preserve the lead. In the 59^th minute Leveque won a free kick in a dangerous area outside of the box, but the Sophomore put his free kick just over the bar keeping it a one score game.

Leveque went on to seal the win for the Huskies with a goal in the 85^th minute to make it 3-1. This is Leveque's first goal of the season.

UConn will be back in action on Monday, September 5^th where they will welcome an old rival back to Morrone Stadium, the #15 ranked Syracuse Orange. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm.
