STORRS, Conn. – Ashley Buschgans joins the UConn Softball coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach, announced by head coach Laura Valentino Monday afternoon.
Buschgans joins the coaching staff after spending the previous three seasons as a student manager for the program.
"We are so excited to have Ashley as a part of our staff," said Valentino. "Ashley's work ethic, attitude, and loyalty to UConn Softball never waivers and is a very special part of our program. Ashley always puts the program first and we are excited to watch her grow as a young coach while she assists UConn Softball in pursuit of a championship."
Buschgans, originally from Waldwick, New Jersey, attended Waldwick High School where she was a four year varsity letter winner for softball, basketball, and soccer. As a softball player, she was a four year First-Team All-League player in her conference and a two-time Second Team All-County player. Buschgans has assisted in coaching for her high school since 2020. She continues to grow the game by volunteering to teach Stafford Little League softball players as well as volunteering for camps in her home state of New Jersey.
Buschgans currently plays for the UConn Club Softball team and has been the president of the club for the past year, helping the team win Regionals and advance to Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia.
"I'm so excited to start my coaching journey here at UConn" said Buschgans. "I am honored to have the opportunity to learn from these coaches, as it is a once in a lifetime experience and I am so grateful to be here."
