Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut track & field teams prepare for a two-day meet event this weekend at the Boston College Eagle Elite Invitational on Friday, Jan. 20 and the Battle in Beantown Invite on Saturday, Jan. 21. Friday's meet is at the Track at New Balance in Boston, MA scheduled to start at 3 p.m. and Saturday's meet is at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.Â
After many top marks and personal bests from last time out at the UMass Invite on Sunday, UConn looks to repeat the same performances as last time. In fact, 36 total athletes claimed a top five finish in their event including two top five finishes from Richmond Kwaateng who competed in the 60-meter dash and the long jump placing second in both events. Â
For the women, Mia Dansby also took two top five finishes competing in the 60-meter dash and the 200m placing fifth and third. On top of that, five athletes would help UConn be at the top of the leaderboard. Wellington Ventura (500m, 1:03.33), James Maniscalco (Mile run, 4:12.62), Celia Chacko (Mile run, 5:01.45), Kasey Savage (Triple Jump, 14.52m), and Matthew Brady (Shot Put, 16.37m) all took first place.Â
Track & Field Director Beth Alford-Sullivan is excited to continue the impressive performances so far, this indoor season. Â
"We'll tune up a little bit this week and hope for another step forward," Alford-Sullivan said. "Each of the meets this season are built to progress one's performances from the tactics in competition to the physical exertion that it takes to continue to get better."
