Three Huskies Earn Preseason All-BIG EAST Honors

NEW YORK โ The UConn men's basketball team was picked third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league on Tuesday (Oct. 24) morning. In addition, a trio of Huskies earned Preseason All-Conference accolades.
Highlighting the preseason honors is a Preseason Freshman of the Year nod for rookie Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.). Other laurels include a Preseason All-Conference Second Team pick for Donovan Clingan (Bristol, Conn.) and a Preseason All-Conference Honorable Mention selection for Alex Karaban (Southborough, Mass.).
Castle's preseason honor comes after the rookie was named a McDonald's All-American and a consensus top-10 recruit heading into his first season in Storrs. The 6-6 combo guard led all scorers on UConn's three-game summer foreign tour with 16.7 points per game.
Clingan grabs a spot on the Preseason Second Team after starring off the bench a season ago, averaging 6.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in only 13 minutes per contest. The 7-2 big man has already received a slew of preseason accolades as he primes for a breakout sophomore season including Preseason All-America honors from The Almanac, CBS Sports and FOX Sports.
The Preseason Honorable Mention nod for Karaban comes after the 6-8 forward averaged 9.3 points and 4.5 rebounds per game a year ago. Pressed into starting duty as a freshman only one game into the season, Karaban would go on to start the final 38 contests of the '22-23 campaign and led the Huskies in total minutes logged.
