Huskies Set for BIG EAST Road Trip

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team is set for a two-game road trip in BIG EAST action against Villanova Friday, Oct. 6 and Georgetown Saturday, Oct. 7.Â
The Huskies look for their first conference victory this weekend after falling to four BIG EAST opponents. UConn stands at 5-11 overall and looks to break its five-game skid. Last time out, the Huskies dropped a four-set match against Marquette on Sept. 30 and nearly pulled off a five-set thriller against DePaul on Oct. 1. Â
Sophomore outside hitter Emma Werkmeister led the Huskies in the five-set match against DePaul, posting 24 kills and 15 digs. This season Werkmeister has the most kills and kill per set rate for UConn with 181 kills and 3.02 kills per set. Graduate student Cera Powell also finished with an impressive 18 kills last match which adds to her season total kill number of 127. Junior Doga Kutlu also finished with her ninth double double last match with 55 assists and 20 digs.Â
Scouting VillanovaÂ
Heading into the matchup, the Wildcats are 10-6 overall and 1-3 in BIG EAST play. Last time out, Villanova swept Xavier in three sets on Sept. 29 and then fell in three sets to Butler on Sept. 30. Leading the way for the Wildcats this season is outside hitter Abby Harrell with 194 kills and 3.29 kills per set. Last weekend, Harrell finished with 21 kills;Â the team high for the Wildcats. Â

Heading into the matchup, the Hoyas are 11-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Last time out, Georgetown took a four-set victory over Butler on Sept. 29 and then fell in five sets to Xavier on Sept. 30. Leading the way for the Hoyas this season are right side hitter Payten Wilhite and outside hitter Mary Grace Goyena as Wilhite is posting 192 kills and 3.20 kills per set and Goyena has 185 kills and 3.08 kills per set. Wilhite and Goyena each recorded 21 kills in the five-set loss to Xavier. Â
UConn will take on Villanova at 4 p.m. EST on Friday and Georgetown at 5 p.m. EST on Saturday. The games can be streamed live on Flo Sports. Â
