No. 8 Huskies to Face Minnesota in Bueckers’ Homecoming

STORRS, Conn. – The eighth-ranked UConn women's basketball team (2-1) travels to Minneapolis to face Minnesota (3-0) Sunday at 5 p.m. ET. The game will air on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (97-9 ESPN).
Sunday's game is a homecoming for redshirt junior Paige Bueckers, who is a native of nearby Hopkins, Minn.
The Huskies are coming off an 80-48 win over No. 20 Maryland on Thursday. Bueckers had 24 points, five rebounds and six steals. Graduate student Aubrey Griffin made her first start of the season and had nine points, 13 rebounds and four blocks.
Two of UConn's freshmen had big performances vs. the Terps. KK Arnold had 12 points and five assists while Ashlynn Shade had 10 points. Both reached double-digit points for the first time in their collegiate careers.
UConn is 3-0 all-time vs. Minnesota. The teams last faced off in the 2021 Battle 4 Atlantis, a 67-58 win for UConn. This is UConn's first game at the University of Minnesota. The Huskies have competed in two NCAA Final Fours in Minneapolis.
Minnesota moved to 3-0 on the season with a 75-43 win over North Dakota State Wednesday. Amaya Battle led the Gophers with 20 points. Mara Braun leads Minnesota with 21.0 points per game. Head coach Dawn Plitzuweit is in her first season at Minnesota.
UConn is ranked eighth in the most recent 2023 Associated Press poll. The Huskies have been ranked in the AP poll for 566 consecutive weeks, which is the longest active streak in the nation. UConn's 566 weeks ranked passes Tennessee (565) for the most consecutive weeks ranked in the AP poll by a women's basketball program.
