KANSAS CITY – UConn men's basketball sophomore Donovan Clingan (Bristol, Conn.) has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 NABC Division I Player of the Year award. The 2024 NABC Division I Player of the Year - selected by a nationwide vote of Division I head coaches - will be announced the week of the 2024 Men's Final Four.
The preseason honor for Clingan comes after the 7-2 center averaged 6.9 points and 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game in only 13.0 minutes per game a season ago. He has picked up a slew of accolades heading into his second year in Storrs, including Preseason All-America honors from The Almanac, CBS Sports and FOX Sports.
Clingan is one of six from the BIG EAST on the watch list. In total, UConn could potentially face nine of the 20 players on the list this regular season. A Husky has been named NABC Player of the Year once in program history – Emeka Okafor shared the honor with Jameer Nelson following the 2003-04 season.
