Bueckers, Shade Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

NEW YORK – Huskies swept the BIG EAST weekly awards as Paige Bueckers was named the conference's Player of the Week and Ashlynn Shade earned Freshman of the Week honors on Monday.
Bueckers averaged 20.5 points, 3.0 steals, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in two wins last week. She also shot 76.2 percent from the field and 75.0 percent from three-point range. Against Ball State, Bueckers scored 15 points and added four rebounds and three assists. Against No. 24 North Carolina, she notched 26 points on 11-for-14 shooting and added three steals and a career-high four blocks.
Bueckers also scored her 1,000th career point vs. the Tar Heels. She tied Maya Moore as the fastest Huskies to 1,000 points as they both reached the milestone in their 55th career games.
Shade went off for a personal-best 17 points vs. Ball State on 7-for-14 shooting. Against North Carolina, she had eight points, four rebounds and two assists. Shade started both games for the Huskies.
Shade is the third Husky to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors this season, joining Qadence Samuels (Nov. 13) and KK Arnold (Nov. 20 & 27).
After a break for finals, the Huskies return to action this Saturday against No. 18 Louisville (10-1) in the XL Center. The Huskies will celebrate memorable moments in the program's history for UConn Eras. UConn will wear throwback uniforms and the first 500 fans will receive a special edition UConn Eras t-shirt.
