Castle Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK – UConn men's basketball freshman Stephon Castle (Covington, Ga.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday (Dec. 27). It is the second Freshman of the Week honor for Castle this season.
After scoring four points and blocking two shots against Seton Hall on Dec. 20, Castle played a huge role in a win over St. John's on Dec. 23. In his return to the starting lineup the 6-6 guard went for eight points and seven rebounds, coming up with two huge baskets in the final minutes of regulation as the Huskies closed the game on an 8-2 run to nab a four-point victory.
Overall on his freshman season Castle is averaging 8.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in 19.4 minutes per contest. The rookie has made three starts in his seven overall appearances and is shooting 45.5 percent from the floor while adding four blocks and seven steals.
Castle and the Huskies return to action on Jan. 2 when they welcome DePaul to Gampel Pavilion.
