Lewisburg, PA - The University of Connecticut Swimming and Diving Team concludes the mid-season with plenty of excitement following a dominant three-day performance. Faced with the challenge of an away environment and the recent loss to the Bison in their last meeting, the Huskies would not be deterred, taking three wins on day one of competition. The first came from Niamh Hofland, winning the 500y Freestyle followed by a solid showing in the 400Y Medley Relay from Kayla Mendonca, Angela Gambardella, Ella Epes, and Maggie Donlevy. Mendonca would beat her previous best in the event with a time of 2:06.80 joining Bella Hoffman, Maggie Rhodes, Kiera Liesinger, Meghan Byrne, and Claire Lippert setting personal records. On the diving side, a full sweep ensued in the 3 mtr event with Ana Laura Faora taking the top spot. Julia Pioso would be close behind and Kate Cooper took third, also setting a personal best.Â
Day two saw continued success for the Huskies with a win in the 1 mtr dive (Julia Pioso) and a new school record in the 100y Butterfly set by Ella Epes. Four swimmers set personal bests - Maggie Donlevy (100y back), Haley Schmitt (100y fly), Bella Hoffman (100y back), and Meghan Byrne (400y IM).Â
Performances on the third and final day sealed the victory with a win by Olivia Herbert in the 200y Butterfly and five more personal bests. The team racked up a final score of 1572.5, passing last year's showing by over five hundred points and taking home the overall win.Â
Up Next - The Huskies return home to Storrs for final exams and a break for the holidays before preparation for Spring competition begins.
