Sanogo Among Final 5 For Abdul-Jabbar Award

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – For the second straight season, UConn junior Adama Sanogo has been named one of five finalists for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award, announced on Friday by the Naismith Hall of Fame.
Named after the 1995 Hall of Famer and three-time NCAA champion, the annual award, in its ninth year, recognizes the top center in Division I men's basketball.
Sanogo, the UConn co-captain, leads the 25-7 Huskies in both scoring (16.7) and rebounding (7.2) and is shooting .592 overall. Counting all games, he is the leading scorer in the BIG EAST Conference and this week was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection for the second straight year.
Joining Sanogo on the final five list for the Abdul-Jabbar Award are Oscar Tshiebwe of Kentucky, Armando Bacot of North Carolina, Zach Edey of Purdue, and Ryan Kalkbrenner of Creighton.
Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, starting Friday on hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
This month, the finalists will be presented to Abdul-Jabbar and the Hall of Fame's selection committee. The Selection Committee for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award is composed of top men's college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.
The winner of the 2023 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award will be presented on a to be determined date, along with the other four members of the Men's Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Bob Cousy Award (Point Guard), Jerry West Award (Shooting Guard), Julius Erving Award (Small Forward) and the Karl Malone Award (Power Forward), in addition to the Women's Starting Five.
