Second-Seeded Huskies to Face No. 3 Ohio State in Sweet 16

SEATTLE – The No. 2-seed UConn women's basketball team (31-5) takes on third-seeded Ohio State (27-7) in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Sweet 16 on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET in Climate Pledge Arena. The game will air on ABC and the UConn Sports Network (97-9 ESPN).
Sophomore Azzi Fudd scored 22 points as UConn beat Baylor, 77-58, last Monday. Fudd scored 16 points in the third quarter. Despite being in foul trouble for most of the game, junior Aaliyah Edwards still scored 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting. Redshirt junior Aubrey Griffin grabbed 12 rebounds and junior Nika Mühl notched 10 assists. UConn trailed 24-18 after the first quarter but outscored Baylor 59-34 in the next three quarters.
This is UConn's 34th overall and straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UConn is 132-22 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, which is the winningest record in the sport. The Huskies have advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 30th time in program history. UConn has appeared in 29 straight Sweet 16 games - an NCAA record. UConn is 27-2 all-time in the Sweet 16.
UConn is 6-0 all-time vs. Ohio State. This will be the first matchup between the Huskies and the Buckeyes in the NCAA Tournament. UConn graduate student Dorka Juhász attended Ohio State for her first three collegiate seasons. Juhász graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology in 2021.
Redshirt junior Aubrey Griffin is the only Husky to have faced Ohio State before. She played seven minutes and scored two points vs. the Buckeyes in her fifth collegiate game in 2019.
Ohio State beat North Carolina, 71-69, in the Second Round. Jacy Sheldon scored the game-winning basket with :01 remaining in the game. This season, Taylor Mikesell leads the Buckeyes with 17.2 points per game. Six players are averaging double-digit points. Head coach Kevin McGuff is in his 10th season at Ohio State.
