Karaban Takes Home BE Freshman Of Week For 6th Time

NEW YORK – UConn redshirt freshman Alex Karaban has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season, as the league announced its final weekly awards of the year.

UConn junior Andre Jackson was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season.

Karaban (Southborough, Mass.) had an outstanding week as the Huskies (24-7) captured wins over DePaul at home and at Villanova. In the two victories, the UConn forward averaged 13.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.5 blocked shots. He shot 58.8 percent overall and 50.0 percent from three-point range.

In Saturday's 71-59 win at Villanova, Karaban poured in 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and blocked 3 shots.

Jackson (Amsterdam, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet in both of the victories, averaging 10.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and shot a sizzling .778 from the field. Against Villanova, he had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
