UConn Athletic Communications / March 7, 2023
The accolades continue for UConn junior forward Adama Sanogo and sophomore guard Jordan Hawkins.
The leading scorers of the UConn men's basketball team, who both were named First Team All-BIG EAST on Sunday, were also named on Tuesday to the Associated Press All-BIG EAST Team. Sanogo was named to the AP's All-BIG EAST First Team and Hawkins was named to the AP All-BIG EAST Second Team.
Also on Tuesday, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced that Hawkins has been named as one of the five finalists for the 2023 Jerry West Award, which is given each year to the top shooting guard in Division I men's college basketball.
The AP All-BIG EAST Team was determined by a vote of 11 media members who cover the conference.
Sanogo leads the Huskies in scoring (16.9) and rebounding (7.2), is shooting .586 overall, .362 from three-point range, and .782 from the foul line. He has had nine 20-plus point games this year and five double-doubles. Counting all games, he leads the BIG EASAT in scoring and is seventh in rebounding.
Hawkins is second on the Huskies in scoring (16.4) and is averaging 3.9 rebounds and shooting .407 overall and .378 from three. In conference games only, he leads the league in scoring (17.2) – one of only three Huskies is history to do so – is second in free throw percentage (.900) and third in three-pointers made per game (2.8). Over the last 13 games of the regular season, the smooth-shooting sophomore has averaged 18.9 ppg.
Hawkins is joined in the Jerry West Award final five by Baylor's Adam Flagler, Houston's Marcus Sasser, Kansas' Gradey Dick and Miami's Isaiah Wong.
Fans can support their favorite player by participating in Fan Voting, beginning Friday, March 10, at hoophallawards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
Later this month, the finalists will be presented to Jerry West and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, which is composed of media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. The winner will be announced on a date to be determined. The award is in its ninth year.
