Hope Jenkins Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, Lexi Hastings earns Honor Roll

STORRS, Conn. – A pair of Huskies have received BIG EAST honors this week for their performances last week. Hope Jenkins was named Pitcher of the Week for the first time in her career. Lexi Hastings earned honor roll for the second straight week and third time this season.
Jenkins was dominant in all three of her starts on the week for the Huskies going 3-0, improving to 11-2 in her freshman season. She led the staff with seventeen innings pitched, boasting a 1.59 era, and tallying twenty strikeouts. Jenkins started in the series opener against St. John's where she retired 17 of the last 19 batters she faced. On Sunday in the series finale, Jenkins picked up right where she left off on Friday, cruising through the St. John's lineup only surrendering two hits, adding a game high eight strikeouts, and tossing her fifth complete game of the season.
Hastings has been a hit machine for the Huskies as she's riding a nine game hitting streak on top of her 24 games on base streak that was started back in early March. In fourteen at bats this week she registered eight hits, adding six runs scored to her team high 32 on the season. On Friday in the series opener against St. John's she had her fourth, three hit game of the season. Hastings showed off her speed on the base paths going 6-6 in stolen bases moving her to a perfect 27-27 on the season. For the weekend she finished with a slash line of .571/.714/.647.
