Huskies Fall to Creighton in Game Two

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team dropped game two of the series to the Creighton Bluejays, 7-5 on Saturday afternoon at Burrill Family Field. The Huskies move to 14-6 in BIG EAST play and 24-25 overall this season.
Redshirt-junior Sydnee Koosh made her 12th start of the season in the circle for the Huskies. Koosh went 1.1 innings giving up four earned runs on just one hit.
Creighton broke the game open in the top of the 2nd inning, scoring seven runs on four hits, giving the Bluejays a commanding 7-0 lead.
Sophomore Amber Bretton came on in relief for Koosh during the 2nd inning, making her 18th appearance of the season.Bretton went 1.2 innings giving up one earned run on three hits, adding a strikeout.
UConn began to chip away at the deficit, utilizing the long ball to narrow the gap. Emma Willers got the Huskies on the board in the bottom of the 2nd inning with her fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to right field to make it 7-1.
In the bottom of the 3rd inning Kaitlyn Breslin hit her 10th home run of the season, a three-run shot to left field, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Bretton in the 4th inning, making her team-leading 33rd appearance this season. Walter was dominant out of the bullpen for the Huskies, retiring 12 of the 13 batters she faced. She tossed 4.0 scoreless innings, giving up just one hit with five strikeouts.
Breslin hit her second homer of the game in the bottom of the 5th inning, a solo shot to left field, making it a two-run game at 7-5. This marks Breslin's second multi-homer game this season and the third of her career.
UConn continued to battle but could not mount a late comeback against Creighton's starter, Audrey Gilman who tossed a complete game for the Bluejays.

- Kaitlyn Breslin recorded her second multi-home run game this season and the third of her career. She has reached base safely in 11 consecutive games and has 12 multi-hit and 14 multi-RBI games this season.
- Kaitlyn Kibling has reached base safely in 17 straight games.

- Cat Petteys has reached base safely in seven consecutive games. She was intentionally walked in two of her four plate appearances.
