Huskies Secure Series Win Over Creighton, Clinch BIG EAST Tournament Berth

STORRS, Conn. – The UConn softball team defeated the Creighton Bluejays, 4-2 in front of a sellout crowd at Burrill Family Field on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Huskies secured the series win over the Bluejays and punched their ticket to the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament. UConn improves to 15-6 in BIG EAST play and 25-25 overall this season.
Freshman Caprice Bohmer made her 21st start of the season in the series finale for the Huskies. Bohmer delivered a strong performance in the circle, retiring ten of the first eleven Bluejays hitters she faced. She went 4.0 innings giving up two runs on three hits with six strikeouts.
UConn opened the scoring in the bottom of the 2nd inning as Caylee De Meo plated the game's first run with a two-out double down the left field line, scoring Haley Coupal from second base, putting the Huskies in front, 1-0.
Creighton knotted the score at 1-1 off a solo home run in the top of the 4th inning.
UConn quickly answered in the bottom of the 4th with another clutch two-out hit to reclaim the lead. Ava Calciano came off the bench as a pinch-hitter and delivered a single to center field, scoring Emma Willers from second base, putting the Huskies back on top, 2-1.
Creighton battled back to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the 5th inning on a bases loaded walk.
Graduate Jessica Walter came on in relief for Bohmer during the 5th inning, making her 34th appearance of the season.Walter got the Huskies out of the 5th inning as she stranded the bases loaded with two consecutive outs, keeping the score tied at 2-2. The Middletown, Delaware native went on to pitch the rest of the game for the Huskies, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings in the circle, giving up just three hits with a strikeout.
The biggest hit of the game came off the bat of Heidi Barber in the bottom of the 6th inning with the bases loaded and two outs in the inning. Barber wasted no time jumping on the first pitch she saw, sending a single into left field, scoring Isabella Lundquist and Kaitlyn Kibling, giving the Huskies the lead for good at 4-2.
Walter locked down the final three outs in the top of the 7th inning, giving UConn the series win over Creighton and punching the Huskies ticket to the 2026 BIG EAST Tournament.
