UConn Set to Host Northeast Challenge Ahead of Senior Day

STORRS, Conn. - The men and women track & field teams prepare to host the 2023 UConn Northeast Challenge at George J. Sherman Family Complex on Friday and Saturday ahead of senior day.Â
The senior day ceremony is scheduled to begin after the meet on Saturday to commemorate the 17 seniors.Â
Last time out, the Huskies split off to compete at the Hurricane Invitational and the UMass Flagship Opener. 42 top-five finishes including 15 personal records were featured in last weekend's competition. Â
Leading the way for the Huskies were five women athletes who finished with strong marks to hold a place in the top-10 list in UConn program history; Emily Lavarnway, Jenna Zydanowicz, Katelyn Reid, Emily Alty, and Chloe Thomas.Â
Lavarnway improved her second all-time mark in the heptathlon with a total score of 5,473 points. Also putting up a strong score in the heptathlon was Reid who finished with a score of 4,760 points ranking her fifth all-time at UConn. Then, Zydanowicz put up a solid 4:21.95 time in the 1500 to rank her fifth all-time at UConn. To round out the stellar performances, Emily Alty in the discus throw put up a sixth all-time result throwing 49.02 meters and Chloe Thomas finished the 1500 with an eighth all-time mark of 4:22.16.Â
Additionally, highlighting for the men last weekend was Wellington Ventura as he put up the 12th best mark in the NCAA in the 400 hurdles running a time of 50.70.Â
The two-day home meet is scheduled to start at 12 pm EST on Friday and 11 am EST on Saturday in Storrs. Â
