Huskies Dominate at Northeast Challenge on Senior Day

UConn Northeast Challenge Final Results
STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut track & field teams competed hard on senior day weekend at the UConn Northeast Challenge on Friday and Saturday.Â
There were strong performances across the board for the Huskies to add to a memorable weekend for the seniors. In the team score, the men and women both finished first as the men compiled 112 points and the women put together a combined 168.5 points. Â
In total, there were 18 personal records that placed top-five at the invitational. For the men, Colin Winkler would finish with a 69.78 meter-result in the javelin placing first. Also placing first with big personal records were Marc Morrison in the long jump (7.55 meters), Terrel Williams in the 110-meter hurdles (13.63 seconds), and Wellington Ventura in the 400-meter hurdles (50.68 seconds). Additionally, Max Ringwall set a personal best in the Decathlon placing fourth with a total of 6,416 points.Â
Another highlight for the men this weekend would come from Chris Lepore and Kevin Cawley as they competed at the Virginia Grand Prix at the University of Virginia in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with personal bests; (Lepore, 8:50.05), (Cawley, 8:53.61). Those times qualify them for the NCAA First Round. Â
For the women, A'liyah Thomas put the boosters on and rocketed to top marks with personal records in the long jump (6.59 meters) and in the 100-meter hurdles (13.45 meters); including setting a personal record in the 200 with a time of 23.85 seconds. Also, in the 1500 meters, UConn took 1,2, and 3 with Celia Chacko taking first with a time of 4:32.55. Madison Relyea would earn a personal record coming in second running a 4:34.11 time and Rachael Woodruff took third also breaking a personal record with a time of 4:34.36.Â

"It was a great home competition," Director of Track & Field Beth Alford-Sullivan said. "The Northeast Challenge really brought out the best from the northeast as well as the best weather for a great competition. I was thrilled with the turnout and the level of competitiveness the northeast is really producing in our sports. I also want to shout out the seniors. They are just a wonderful group of men and women that have built and maintained Big East Championships, school records, top-ten performances, and NCAA marks throughout their career here."Â
Next up, the Huskies have the Virginia Challenge from Thursday, April 20 to Saturday, April 22 in Charlottesville, Va. Â
