Three Huskies Sign as NFL Free Agents; Two Invited to Rookie Minicamps

STORRS, Conn. – UConn football players Robert Burns (Miami, Fla.), Jake Guidone (Westwood, Mass.) and Brandon Bouyer-Randle (Battle Creek, Mich.) signed NFL contracts as undrafted free agents while Ian Swenson (Wilmette, Ill.) and Tre Wortham (Stockton, Calif.) have received invites to NFL rookie mini camps next month.
Burns, a fullback, signed on with the Chicago Bears at the conclusion of the NFL Draft. The former Husky transferred to UConn with two seasons of eligibility from the University of Miami. In his two seasons, he played in 23 games, carrying the ball 86 times for 419 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He took on a major role in the UConn backfield in 2022, finishing fourth on the team in rushing with 374 yards and two scores.
Guidone, a center, inked a deal with the Baltimore Ravens. Guidone transferred to UConn for his final season of eligibility in 2022 and stepped in as the starting center on the Huskies offensive line. Starting all 13 games, he helped fuel a rushing attack that averaged 191.0 yards per game. The Huskies went over 200-yards plus rushing in six games and three-straight to close out the regular season. Guidone helped lead a unit that ranked 30th nationally in sacks allowed, giving up 17 on the season, just 1.42 per game.
Bouyer-Randle, a linebacker, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After successful stints at Texas Tech and Michigan State, Bouyer-Randle used his final year of eligibility with the Huskies last fall. He started all 13 games defensively for UConn, finishing second on the club with 98 total tackles, a career-high, along with two interceptions and a forced fumble. He finished with eight tackles for loss, including a sack. Bouyer-Randle played in this year's 77th annual Hula Bowl College All-Star Game.
Swenson, a linebacker, will attend the rookie minicamp with the New York Jets after wrapping a four-year playing career for the Huskies. Swenson started all 13 games in 2022 and was fifth on the team with 88 total tackles. He had an interception and a forced fumble as well. Over his career, he played in 48 games at UConn making 242 total tackles, 14 for a loss, with three sacks.
Wortham, a cornerback, will join Burns after receiving a minicamp invitation from the Bears. He started all 13 games for the Huskies this fall and collected 75 tackles. He led the team with four interceptions and had 10 passes defended as well and also had a forced fumble. At the end of the season, he was named to the New England Football Writers 2022 University Division All-New England team. He played with Bouyer-Randle at this year's Hula Bowl All-Star Game.
