Huskies Picked for Phil Steele All-Preseason Teams

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn football team continues to collect some preseason honors as they Huskies head toward training camp and the start of the 2023 season. The 2023 Phil Steele Preseason All-American teams were announced this week with UConn senior Christian Haynes (Bowie, MD) earning a spot on the offensive third team. Haynes has also earned recognition on the preseason All-American lists of Athlon Sports and the Walter Camp Preseason FBS All-American team, presented by 777.
In addition, Haynes earned a spot along with 10 other Huskies on the 2023 Phil Steele Preseason Independent Team. Joining Haynes on the first team are sophomore tight end Justin Joly (New Rochelle, NY), senior linebacker Jackson Mitchell (Ridgefield, CT), senior defensive end Eric Watts (Sumter, SC), junior defensive back Durante Jones (Atlanta, GA) and r-junior defensive back Malik Dixon-Williams (Orlando, FL).
Earning a spot on the Preseason All-Independent second team was r-junior wide receiver Kevan Clercius (Montreal, QC), r-junior defensive lineman Dal'mont Gourdine (North Charleston, SC), r-junior offensive lineman Valentin Senn (Volders, Austria), senior quarterback Joseph Fagnano (Williamsport, PA) and sophomore running back and kick returner Victor Rosa (Bristol, CT).
The Huskies will officially open summer training camp in late July as they get ready to open the 2023 season on Thursday, August 31 playing host to the NC State Wolfpack at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.
