STORRS, Conn. – Kamali Webson has been elevated to assistant coach, as announced by head coach Chris Gbandi on Tuesday afternoon. Webson served as the volunteer assistant last season.
Webson will replace Cameron Omsberg as the second assistant on coach Gbandi's staff. "With coach Omsberg taking the next step in his career, we are delighted and felt it was important to reward Coach Webson by moving him up to be a full member of our staff.", said Gbandi.
Omsberg departed UConn in late spring for an opportunity with FC Florida. "We are very excited for coach Omsberg and his wife Heather for taking on this new and wonderful opportunity.", said Gbandi. "Any time you are chosen to be associated with Eagle Football Group it says a lot about your ability. I have no doubt he will be a huge success working with such a great footballing group. We wish Cam all the best."
Webson will continue to support the Huskies through recruiting efforts for prospective student-athletes and will work closely with the attacking players on the roster.
"Coach Webson is a tireless worker and has a great rapport with the players. He understands the culture we are trying to create here at UConn Men's Soccer and has been a huge part of our group improving on and off the field over the last year. We are thrilled for he and his wife Emily."
Webson played college soccer at Roger Williams University and Hawaii Pacific University, where he was a three-time first team all-conference, two-time first team all-new England player, and a 2012 Division III All-American.
"I'm very excited to have the trust of head coach Chris Gbandi and the administration to be elevated into this full time position.", said Webson. "I am looking forward to being able to even more fully immerse and dedicate myself and my time towards returning UConn Men's Soccer to the pinnacle of College Soccer yet again."
