KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Former UConn basketball guard Joey Calcaterra has earned a place on the NABC Honors Court, as the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced its 2022-23 academic awards.
Calcaterra (Novato, Calif.), who transferred to UConn last year as a graduate student and helped the Huskies win the 2023 National Championship, is working toward his master's degree in management.
The NABC Team Academic Awards recognize men's basketball programs that completed the 2022-23 academic year with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The NABC Honors Court includes juniors, seniors and graduate student men's basketball players who finished the year with a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
Calcaterra, who played his first four years at the University of San Diego, appeared in 38 games during UConn's 31-8 season, averaging 5.8 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. His .446 three-point field goal percentage (50-112) led the team and he shot .417 overall and .885 from the foul line.
"Education is a core value of the NABC and we are privileged to recognize these outstanding student-athletes and the coaches and support staff who invest in their development," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "The hundreds of teams and thousands of players that qualified for NABC academic awards this season are a testament to our sport's ongoing prioritization of success in the classroom."
