STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (1-1-1) out shot the Army Black Knights 22-3 on Thursday night at Morrone Stadium but had to settle for a 0-0 draw after not finding the back of the net.Â
UConn controlled possession and the pace of play for the lion's share of the match and created scoring opportunity after scoring opportunity.Â
Kelly Monaco had the best chance of the first half with a rebound chance out in front that was saved at point blank range from Army goalkeeper Sage Strohman.
The Huskies totaled nine shots in the first half to the Black Knights one.Â
The Huskies drew nine corner kicks in the match and had some quality chances off the set piece. Abbey Jones nearly gave UConn the lead in 57th minute with a header off a corner kick that just went wide.Â
The best opportunity of the second 45 came on some great ping pong passing from the Huskies that ended up at the feet of sophomore Chioma Okafor inside the box but a touch that went just a bit too far was gobbled up by the keeper.Â
UConn did secure its second shutout of the season at Morrone with the UConn only allowing three shots and none of them on goalkeeper Kaitlyn Mahoney.
The Huskies will look to bounce back on Sunday, September 3 at 7 p.m. against New Hampshire at Morrone Stadium.Â
