STORRS, Conn. – The UConn women's soccer team (2-1-1) secured a 2-0 shutout victory against New Hampshire (3-2) on Sunday night at Morrone Stadium.
The Huskies have shutout their opponents in all three games at Morrone this season and have a streak of five-straight home games with a clean sheet.
UConn featured its depth on Sunday night with nine players coming off the bench including freshman Brooke Walonis, who scored her first career goal in the 69th minute to double the Huskies lead to 2-0.
Fifth-year senior captain Jessica Mazo broke a scoreless tie in the early moments of the second half with her first goal of the season and sixth career tally.
The Huskies dominated the match with a 25-0 margin in shots and earned 10 corner kicks to the Wildcats zero.
Senior Chloe Landers was quality off the bench playing all over the field for the Huskies in her first 44 minutes of the season.
Freshman Lydia LeBlanc nearly joined her fellow freshman, Walonis, with her first career goal but was denied inside the box in the first half on a quality opportunity.
Mazo led the way with four shots while Chioma Okafor, Cara Jordan and Abbey Jones all logged three shots on the evening. Jones drilled a free kick opportunity off the crossbar in the second half that almost added to the Huskies lead.
Yasmin Rosewell came off the bench for her first minutes of 2023 and provided 19 solid minutes in the back for UConn, securing the Huskies third shutout of the year.
Lucy Cappadona and Jackie Harnett continue to be weapons in the back, playing all 90 minutes in the middle of the UConn defense and helping keep the Wildcats off the board in the shots department.
Next up, the Huskies have a quick turnaround with a Wednesday evening match vs. Marist at 7 p.m. at Morrone Stadium.
