STORRS, Conn. - The UConn women's soccer team (3-1-1) scored a season-high five goals to overpower Marist, 5-0, on Wednesday evening at Morrone Stadium.

The 3-1-1 start for the Huskies is the best five-game start to a season since the Huskies were 4-1 at the start of its 2016 NCAA Tournament season.

The Huskies quickly took control of the match with a early goal in the sixth minute from sophomore Chioma Okafor. The striker leapt into the air and headed home for second goal of the year on a service into the box from Laci Lewis.

UConn doubled its lead right before the end of the half with long-time defender Chloe Landers switching to a forward position and converting on an Anaya Johnson cross inside the six. The Glastonbury, Conn. native volleyed it out of the air to make it 2-0 Huskies.

The Huskies added three goals in the second half to notch its first five-goal effort since scoring a 5-0 victory vs. UMass Lowell on August 28, 2022.

Okafor added her second goal of the game in the in 64th minute after Cara Jordan volleyed her shot off the post and found the forward from Blantyre, Malawi.

The freshmen then got in on the fun with Anaya Johnson and Alayna Taylor collecting their first career goals.

The UConn defense and goalkeeper Kailtyn Mahoney secured its six-straight shutout at home and fourth of the season with the Red Foxes mustering uo one shot on the evening.

The Huskies have out shot their opponents 71-4 over the last three games with Mahoney not having to make a save in any of the three contests.

UConn utilized 10 players off the bench on Wednesday including Evelyn Arsenault playing in her first game of the season.

Next up, the Huskies head on the road on Sunday, September 10 to New Haven, Conn. to take on the Yale Bulldogs at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
