Huskies Set To Open BIG EAST Play

STORRS, Conn. - Â The University of Connecticut women's volleyball team is set to open BIG EAST Conference play on the road this weekend as they travel to New York to take on St. John's followed by a trip to Seton Hall.
The Huskies matchup vs. St. John's is set to begin at 7:00pm and can be streamed on ESPN3. The last time these two teams faced off was last season in the Big East Tournament where the Huskies came away victorious after a thrilling five set battle.
Entering the weekend, the Huskies currently sit at 5-7 overall and are coming off a 1-2 weekend which featured a win over Binghamton University in five sets. UConn is led by sophomore Emma Werkmeister who sits at 127 total kills. On the defensive side of the ball, the Huskies are led by Taylor Pannell who has 26 total blocks on the season, and Audrey Rome who is close behind with 24 blocks. St. John's enters the matchup sitting at 8-4 overall and are also coming off a 1-2 weekend. The Red Storm are led by Erin Jones who currently has 166 total kills this season.
Following the matchup with St. John's, the Huskies will travel to New Jersey to take on Seton Hall University. The Pirates enter the match 6-5 overall and will face the Providence Friars to open Big East action. Seton Hall is led by a dual attack at setter with Maddie Klungel and Taylor Jakubowski who have 201 and 183 assists respectively, and outside hitter Madeline Matheny who has 100 total kills on the season.
The UConn vs. Seton Hall matchup is set to begin at 5:00pm on Saturday September 23 and can be streamed live on Flo Sports.
