Breanna Stewart Named 2023 WNBA MVP

NEW YORK – UConn women's basketball alumna Breanna Stewart was named the 2023 WNBA Most Valuable Player on Tuesday.
This is Stewart's second WNBA MVP after winning the honor in 2018. Stewart was also named the AP's WNBA Player of the Year in 2018, '22 and '23.
In her first season with the New York Liberty, Stewart set a career best with 23.0 points per game while adding 9.3 rebounds and a career-high 3.8 assists per game.
Stewart had a prolific career at UConn from 2012-16. She led the Huskies to four straight NCAA Championships and was named the NCAA Tournament MVP in each season. Stewart was a three-time All-American and three-time National Player of the Year at UConn.
UConn has had four alums earn WNBA MVP honors: Diana Taurasi (2009), Tina Charles (2012), Maya Moore (2014) and Stewart (2018, '23).
The New York Liberty finished the regular season with a 32-8 record and a second-place finish. The Liberty won the 2023 Commissioner's Cup Championship.
New York hosts the Connecticut Sun tonight at 8 p.m. in the second round of the WNBA Playoffs.
