Tristen Newton Named To Wooden Award Midseason Top 25

LOS ANGELES – UConn men's basketball graduate guard Tristen Newton (El Paso, Texas) has been named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List, as announced by The Los Angeles Athletic Club on Wednesday (Jan. 10).
Chosen by a poll of national college basketball experts based on their performances during the 2023-24 season thus far, the list comprises of 25 student-athletes who are front-runners for the sport's most prestigious honor.
Newton has starred this season for the No. 4 Huskies, currently leading Connecticut in scoring (15.1 ppg), assists (5.8 apg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg). The NCAA active leader in triple-doubles, Newton recorded a triple-double on Nov. 24 vs. Manhattan and has notched three double-doubles this season. His high scoring mark came on Dec. 1 at No. 5 Kansas, when he poured in 31 points to keep the Huskies in the tight setback.
Other marquee performances for Newton this season include his 23-point, 11-rebound double-double against Indiana in the Empire Classic and an efficient 14-point, five-rebound, five-assist performance against No. 9 North Carolina in the Jimmy V Classic. He has eclipsed the 20-point mark three times on the year and has scored in double-figures in all but two contests.
Newton is one of three from the BIG EAST on the Midseason list. The next step is the Wooden Award National Ballot, comprising 15 members and announced prior to the NCAA Tournament.
