Taylor Pannell Wins BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

STORRS, Conn.-Â Graduate student MB Taylor Pannell has been named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. Pannell was instrumental in helping volleyball stay undefeated at home (12-0), as the Huskies won their fifth and sixth matches in a row in victories over Villanova and St. John's.
On Friday, Pannell had 14 kills, hitting at .419, with 3 digs and 1 block. Against St. John's on Saturday, the middle blocker had 14 kills again, coming up huge on the defensive end with 9 blocks in a five-set victory over the Red Storm. Overall, on the weekend, Pannell had 3.78 points/set, and 1.22 block/set as UConn moved to 18-2 on the season, 6-2 in BIG EAST play.
Doga Kutlu was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as well, averaging 10.67 assists/set and 4.56 digs/set, including a conference season high 32 digs in the win over Villanova.Â
The Huskies will hit the road to face Xavier and DePaul this weekend on Friday and Sunday.
