Huskies Take Commanding Win Over Stony Brook at Home

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's tennis team took the 5-2 win at their home indoor courts over Stony Brook at Magic Lincer Tennis Club Friday night.
Junior Olivia Wright clinched the match at first singles to give the Huskies their fifth win this season. UConn is now 5-2 overall. The Huskies quickly earned the doubles point, taking a 6-0 win at second doubles and a 6-3 victory at first doubles. Then, UConn would rattle off four of the six singles points at the first singles, second singles, third singles, and fourth singles positions.
"This was a very good win against a tough Stony Brook team tonight," said tennis head coach Glenn Marshall. "We started out the match playing very good doubles on all 3 courts. Isabel and Caroline got things started with an energized 6-0 win, followed by a solid win by Liv and Maria 6-3. In the 3 spot, Bella and Nansi were leading 5-2 when the doubles point was won. In singles, Isabel and Caroline got things started with impressive wins in straight sets. This put the team score at 3-0. From there, we had 3 set matches on the four remaining courts. Maria and Liv rose to the occasion and closed out their matches to secure the win. I was very pleased with the team's effort and toughness on many of the courts tonight."
Wright, Maria Constantinou, Isabel Petri Bere, and Caroline Hinshaw all went 2-0 in singles and doubles. Additionally, Petri Bere won both doubles and singles without dropping a game. Hinshaw also upped her singles record to 5-2 with a straight set victory at fourth singles going 6-3, 6-0. Hinshaw and Petri Bere also have an impressive 6-1 doubles record at the second and third doubles spot.
