No. 3 Huskies to Host No. 6 Syracuse in NCAA Second Round

STORRS, Conn. – The third-seeded UConn women's basketball team (30-5) takes on No. 6-seed Syracuse (25-7) in the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Second Round on Monday at 6 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on ESPN and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97-9).
This is UConn's 35th overall and straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies have played in each NCAA Tournament beginning with the 1988-89 season. UConn is the winningest program in NCAA Tournament games with a 133-23 overall record. This is the third time in program history that UConn is a three seed.
The Huskies are 30-2 in the NCAA Second Round and have won 29 straight Second Round games.
UConn beat Jackson State, 86-64, in the NCAA First Round. Redshirt junior Paige Bueckers notched 28 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals with no turnovers or fouls vs. the Tigers. Freshman Ashlynn Shade set a personal best with 26 points, the most scored by a Husky in their NCAA Tournament debut. Senior Aaliyah Edwards, who missed UConn's previous two games, returned to the starting lineup and recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
UConn and Syracuse have a storied history as former BIG EAST rivals. The Huskies are 39-13 all-time vs. the Orange, including 39-6 under Geno Auriemma. The teams last faced off in the 2021 NCAA Tournament Second Round. Then-freshmen Paige Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards scored 20 and 19 points, respectively, in an 83-47 win.
Syracuse led for just 2:05 in a 74-69 win over No. 11-seed Arizona in the NCAA First Round. Dyaisha Fair led the Orange with 32 points. Fair ranks eighth nationally with 22.3 points per game. Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack is in her second season at her alma mater.
