No. 3 Huskies to Face No. 7 Duke in NCAA Sweet 16

PORTLAND – The third-seeded UConn women's basketball team (31-5) takes on No. 7-seed Duke (22-11) in the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Sweet 16 on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET in the Moda Center. The game will air on ESPN and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (The River 105.9).
This is UConn's 35th overall and straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies have played in each NCAA Tournament beginning with the 1988-89 season. UConn is the winningest program in NCAA Tournament games with a 134-23 overall record. This is the third time in program history that UConn is a three seed.
The Huskies are 27-3 in the NCAA Sweet 16. This is UConn's 30th straight Sweet 16 appearance. Duke is the sixth ACC opponent for the Huskies this season. UConn is 3-2 vs. the conference this season.
UConn advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 72-64 win over Syracuse last Monday in Gampel Pavilion. Redshirt junior Paige Bueckers matched her season high with 32 points and added 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals. Freshman Ashlynn Shade notched 19 points and was 5-of-9 from three-point range. A 21-12 second quarter put UConn ahead at halftime, 39-28. The Orange began a second-half comeback, pulling to within three with just over a minute left. Freshman KK Arnold hit a dagger three with 29 seconds remaining to push the lead to six.
UConn is 12-3 all-time vs. Duke and the Huskies have won the last 10 meetings between the teams. The Huskies and Blue Devils' last meeting also came in Portland, on Nov. 25, 2022, in the Phil Knight Legacy tournament. UConn won the meeting, 78-50. UConn and Duke have faced off in the NCAA Tournament three times before, with UConn holding a 2-1 advantage. The teams competed in the 2018 Sweet 16.
No. 7-seed Duke upset No. 2-seed Ohio State, 75-63, last Sunday. Reigan Richardson leads the Blue Devils with 12.4 points per game. Head coach Kara Lawson is in her fourth season at Duke.
