SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UConn baseball team (3-7) lost its series opener, 13-3, against No. 25 UC Santa Barbara on Friday night at Cesar Uyesaka Stadium.
The Huskies had opportunities in the early innings against Gauchos ace Matt Ager but left seven stranded in the first three innings.
The Gauchos got to UConn starter Garrett Coe by scoring six runs against the lefthander and knocking him out of the game in the fourth inning.
Trailing 10-0 in the seventh inning, the Huskies got on the scoreboard on an RBI double off the bat of sophomore Ryan Daniels. Grad student Paul Tammaro followed with an RBI single to make it a 10-2 game.
Daniels capped the UConn scoring in the ninth inning by hitting a solo home run, his second of the year.Â
The Huskies will look to bounce back on Saturday and even up the series against UCSB.
