HookC Heads To South Orange To Face Pirates

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The UConn baseball team (25-18, 10-2 BIG EAST) travels to Seton Hall (21-24, 4-8 BIG EAST) for a three-game set in the BIG EAST. The series opener begins Friday, May 3 at 3 p.m. with game two following on Saturday at 1 p.m. and wraps up with the series finale on Sunday at 12 p.m. All three games will be streamed on FloSports and can be heard on MIXLR.
The Huskies are coming off a sweep against Villanova at Elliot Ballpark that pushed the UConn win streak to a season-high eight games. Seton Hall most recently in BIG EAST play won a road series at Butler last weekend.Â
Starting pitching was a key for the Huskies in its series sweep against the Wildcats. Stephen Quigley fired 8.0 shutout innings with just three hits allowed, zero walks and eight strikeouts and was followed by Garrett Coe. The hig lefty tossed his second complete game of the season and allowed one unearned run.
Ian Cooke closed the weekend with a quality start with 6.0 innings of one-run ball. Korey Morton closed the series with a four-hit game that featured a walk-off two-run homer to clinch the series sweep.Â
Zak Sylvester leads the offense for the Pirates with a .320 batting average and a team-high 30 runs batted in. Ryan Reich leads the BIG EAST and the Seton Hall rotation with 71 strikeouts on the year.
UConn enters the weekend in first place in the BIG EAST with a one game lead over Georgetown. Seton Hall sits two games back of Xavier for the fourth and final spot in the BIG EAST Championship. Â
