Alex Karaban Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

NEW YORK – UConn men's basketball redshirt senior Alex Karaban has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday (Nov. 17). Karaban led UConn to a 2-0 week with wins over Columbia and No. 7 BYU, averaging 20.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks.
It is the second career Player of the Week nod for Karaban, the first coming on Dec. 23, 2024. The Husky captain shot 15-of-22 (68.1 percent) from the field and 6-of-9 (66.7 percent) from 3-point range in the two games. On Nov. 10 against Columbia, Karaban went an efficient 7-11 from the field and 2-5 from distance while adding six rebounds and four assists to his 20-point effort.
In the top-10 showdown against BYU in his hometown TD Garden, Karaban tied for the team-high with 21 points and was 8-of-11 from the field while going a perfect 4-for-4 from 3-point range. He added two steals and a block and did not record a turnover and only left the floor for a total of 57 seconds.
Overall this season the All-America hopeful is averaging 18.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He is shooting 61.9 percent (26-42) from the floor and has connected on 62.3 percent (12-19) from 3-point range.
The Huskies return to action on Wednesday night for a top-five matchup with No. 5 Arizona on FS1 at 7 p.m. in Storrs.
