Werkmeister and Kutlu Receive All-Conference Honors

NEW YORK— Senior outside hitter Emma Werkmeister and graduate student setter Doga Kutlu were both named to the All-BIG EAST Team, the conference announced on Friday morning.
Kutlu earned all-conference honors for the second straight season. As a graduate student from Ankara, Turkey, she led UConn's offense, ranking third in conference play with 9.42 assists per set (second overall with 9.23) To open the season, Kutlu was named to the Bearcat Classic and Top Dogs Classic All-Tournament teams. In a five-set win over Binghamton on August 30, she recorded 48 assists and 12 digs. She tallied 44 assists in a win over Ball State on September 5. Against Yale on September 12, Kutlu posted a UConn career-high 10 kills, nearly reaching a triple-double with 33 assists and nine digs.
Kutlu recorded 56 assists in a win over St. John's on October 4. She earned BIG EAST Setter of the Week on October 6th. Kutlu hit several milestones throughout the season. She notched her 1000th career dig on November 8th. On November 14th, she became only the sixth Husky in program history to surpass 3,000 career assists. Over three seasons in Storrs, Kutlu finished with 3,068 assists, 1,026 digs, 88 aces, and 259 kills.
Werkmeister earned unanimous all-conference honors after a standout senior season. The outside hitter led UConn with 407 kills and ranked third in the BIG EAST with 4.12 kills per set. Werkmeister dominated at the service line, leading Division I with 68 total aces, and ranking third nationally with 0.65 aces per set. Werkmeister set a UConn program record with 10 aces against Providence (Oct. 26) and broke the BIG EAST single-season record on Nov. 8, finishing league play with 41. She was named Top Dogs Classic MVP (Sept. 8) after a 21-kill performance versus Colgate (Sept, 6), earned Yale-Fairfield Invite All-Tournament honors (Sept. 15), and was UConn Classic MVP (Sept. 22).
Werkmeister posted double-digit kills in 24 of 28 matches, also recording at least one ace in 23 matches. The senior from Victor, New York, reached her 1000th career kill against Georgetown on October 17th and became the 15th Husky in program history to reach that mark. Cementing her legacy in the UConn record books, Werkmeister finished eighth in program history with 1,146 kills and fourth with 148 aces.
