No. 1 Huskies to Host Florida State Sunday

STORRS, Conn. – The top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (1-0) hosts Florida State (2-0) Sunday in Gampel Pavilion at 4:30 p.m. The game will air on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).
Before the game, the Huskies will unveil their 2025 National Championship banner. Fans should be in their seats by 4 p.m. for the banner unveiling ceremony. The first 7,000 fans in Gampel will receive a rally towel to commemorate the championship banner. The ceremony will stream on the women's basketball X and Facebook pages.
UConn returned to the pinnacle of women's basketball and won its record 12th NCAA Championship in 2025 with an 82-59 win over South Carolina on April 6 in Tampa. The second-seeded Huskies became the first team to beat three No. 1 seeds (USC, UCLA, South Carolina) to win a championship.
UConn opened the season with a 79-66 win over No. 20 Louisville in the Armed Forces Classic at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., last Tuesday. Sophomore Sarah Strong led the Huskies with 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Graduate student Azzi Fudd scored 20 points. Junior KK Arnold scored 13 points in the first half and sophomore Kayleigh Heckel had 14 points in her UConn debut.
UConn is 10-0 all-time vs. Florida State. The teams last faced off in the 2022 Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase, an 85-77 win for the Huskies. Associate head coach Chris Dailey led UConn to the win as she filled in for head coach Geno Auriemma. Caroline Ducharme and Ayanna Patterson are the only two Huskies currently on the roster who played in that game.
Florida State moved to 2-0 on the season with an 80-72 win over Georgia Southern on Thursday. This season, Solé Williams is leading the Seminoles with 16.5 points per game. Florida State was picked to finish ninth in the preseason ACC coaches' poll. Brooke Wyckoff is in her fourth season as head coach at Florida State.
UConn is ranked No. 1 in both the preseason Associated Press and WBCA Coaches' polls. This is the 13th time in program history the Huskies have opened the season as the preseason No. 1 team in the AP poll.
The Huskies were picked to finished first in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll. Strong was named the conference's preseason Player of the Year while Kelis Fisher was selected as preseason Freshman of the Year. Fudd, senior Serah Williams and juniors Arnold and Ashlynn Shade were named Preseason All-BIG EAST.
