No. 5 UConn Clinch BIG EAST Regular Season Title, Beat No. 22 Creighton

HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman Sarah Strong had 22 points and nine rebounds to lead the No. 5 UConn women's basketball team (27-3, 17-0 BIG EAST) to a 72-53 win over No. 22 Creighton Thursday evening in the XL Center. With the win, the Huskies clinched the 2024-25 BIG EAST regular season championship.
The title is UConn's 31st regular season conference championship and 24th as a member of the BIG EAST. It's UConn's 12th straight regular season title.
Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers notched 15 points and seven rebounds.
UConn had a slow start and didn't score its first points until a Jana El Alfy layup at 5:55 in the first quarter. The Huskies finished the quarter on an 11-2 run to take a one-point lead.
Strong had nine points on 4-4 shooting in the second quarter as UConn heated up offensively. The Huskies shot 62.5% in the second and took a 38-22 lead into halftime.
UConn will be the No. 1 seed in next weekend's BIG EAST Tournament at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn. The Huskies will face the winner of the 8/9 seed game on Saturday, March 8, at noon on FS1.
The Huskies finish the regular season vs. Marquette (20-8, 12-5) on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Gampel Pavilion. The game will air on FS1.
